    :: MY STORY ::

    My journey as an educator reflects my deep passion for teaching and my commitment to student growth. I strive to create engaging, innovative learning experiences that inspire students, while also fostering meaningful connections that build confidence and self-efficacy.

    I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Systems Engineering from UC Davis, with an emphasis on environmental engineering and regenerative agriculture, and I played Division I lacrosse during my time there. Later, I earned a Master’s in Teaching and a Multiple Subject Credential from USC, where I focused on educational equity and STEM education.

    Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of teaching across all grade levels, working with students from diverse backgrounds, and serving as a therapeutic camp counselor for Quest Camps. Most recently, I spent two years as a 7th-grade math and science teacher at a Title I school in San Jose, CA, where I worked closely with English Learners and underrepresented students in STEM.

    My mission is to empower students to embrace who they are and develop a strong sense of self-efficacy that will inspire them in both their academic and personal journeys.

    When I’m not teaching, you’ll likely find me outdoors — camping, backpacking, gardening, or playing sports. I’m also passionate about traveling and, most of all, I treasure time spent with my wife and our four cats in our cozy beach cottage in Santa Cruz!

Rylie’s Philosophy

At EmpowerEd Learning Club, I believe education should be equitable, adaptable, and culturally responsive. Every student has unique learning styles and challenges, and my goal is to create a supportive, inclusive space where they feel valued and empowered. I prioritize flexibility, tailoring lessons to meet individual needs while fostering openness, curiosity, and confidence. By centering equity, student voice, and cultural relevance, I help learners take ownership of their education and reach their fullest potential.

I’m deeply committed to advancing educational equity. A long-term goal of mine is to partner with Title I schools to provide low-cost or free tutoring and mentorship to ensure that every student, regardless of their background, has access to the support they need to succeed academically and professionally.
